Hello & Welcome to week 5 in the
#ReadIsla campaign. I'm a little late this week in posting, as I've been on vacation in FL with my family. But, if you follow me on Instagram, Facebook and Tumblr, you might find a few quotes I shared that Stephanie herself was posting this last week. Just in case you missed them, here are a few of my recent favs:
You know it's not a Stephanie Perkins book unless there are some kissy scenes right? Trust me, there are plenty of those. And they're awesome! Oh what the heck, one more kissy teaser
Now that you know this book has kissing.... let's talk about the characters for just a moment. Don't worry, no spoilers. I want to know,
Who's Your Favorite Stephanie Perkins character? Is it Anna, Lola or Isla? I totally understand if it's a tough question. Sophie and I have talked about Stephanie's characters many times. Just like with the guys, it's impossible for me to choose my favorite girl.
You know an author has a special talent for writing when they create three distinct characters all of whom you love equally for various reasons. That's how I feel about Stephanie's three main female characters in each of her books. Instead of having one character I like more than the other, I've found that I simply adore Anna, Lola and Isla all equally, because of who they are. All three girls are quirky, lovable, independent, flawed, realistically portrayed, and totally relatable. I see a little bit of myself in each girl. I understand all three of them differently. I swear I may be close to being old enough to be their moms, okay, wait, not quite, but close.... the thing is I adore each character as if they were my real friends, because I feel like each girl brings something incredible to her own story and to fans of Perkins's books.
Anna, Lola and Isla are all three amazing characters who each face their own set of challenges. They're learning about life, love, and how to navigate through their own crazy worlds of Paris, San Fransisco & New York City. The thing that struck me the most with all three girls, is the fact that they are who they are. They don't make excuses for who they are. I love that. Perkins's makes it so easy to understand each one of them. I understood their hopes, and desires, their worries, fears and everything in between. I understood their yearning for more, and their wanting to just be. I know that sounds stupid....but there's something pretty incredible about the way Perkins's writes her stories that just sucks me in and makes me feel like I'm reading a friend's story. It was so easy for me to care about her characters. In doing that, she's made it impossible for me to choose a favorite. Like I said, I seriously loved each character for various reasons, but as a whole, they're simply all strong, fabulously crafted characters who offer reader's of Perkins's books something unique.
I want to know, who's your favorite? Do you have one girl you felt connected to more than the other? Or are you like me, and find it impossible to choose between one? Leave me a comment and let me know! For those who do leave a comment, you'll be entered to win a set of these......
